OMRF Research Tower-Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Mechanical Engineer: Phoenix Design Group
General Contractor: Flintco
Project Data: The OMRF Research Tower is a 183,500 sq. ft. state of the art, LEED Gold project incorporating Chilled Beams and Venturi Wedges into the mechanical system. The tower is an eight story building with a clean room vivarium for animal holding and research. It also houses a doctors clinic and numerous research labs.
The mechanical design significantly reduced the initial construction cost as well as the owner's operating cost by reducing the amount of make-up air requirement for the lab and building exhaust. The thermal load of the building is served by the Venturi Wedges and Chilled Beams. High pressure air from the Make-up Air Unit is forced through nozzles inside the Wedges and Chilled Beams to provide heating and cooling of the spaces through the process of induction, thereby reducing the duct work size required to transfer conditioned air.
